The office

A federation with named leadership

The American Powerlifting Association is led today by president Chris Pappillion and vice president Mark Duckworth. Founder Scott Taylor held the office from the federation’s formation in 1987 until his retirement in June 2022, and the structure he built still stands: a named president, and named state and regional chairpersons, rather than an anonymous governing body.

The chairpersons below are how a nationwide federation stays local. They are the people meet directors, gyms and lifters deal with in their own state — the ones who know the venues, the calendars and the lifters on their patch by name.

For anything that needs the federation office itself — sanctioning, records, membership or certification — write to apapowerlifting@gmail.com or call 413-212-9112.

On the ground

National, state and regional chairpersons

15 named chairpersons keep APA local — an American chairman at national level, and the rest across ten states, the Midwest, the Northeast and the U.S. military. Where the federation links an officer's public profile, the card carries it.

Directing a meet?

Sanction your meet with APA

A sanction is what puts your meet on the federation calendar and your lifters’ totals on its record boards. A dedicated sanction request form is in the works; until it lands, sanctioning is arranged directly with the office — write to apapowerlifting@gmail.com and a chairperson for your state will pick it up.
